AppdevconThis week I’ve been thinking about...
iPhone Duo arrives in just two weeks, and pre-orders open next week! I really hope I can get my pre-order in, but there are rumors there might not be enough for everyone. That’s why I keep seeing funny posts on Reddit like “my uncle said don’t get the white iPhone Duo, it has some defect” 😄 I’m glad people are having fun, and it’s great to see the hype growing.
To learn how to support iPhone Duo and what’s new for us as developers, check out this issue. I hope you enjoy it!
This issue also has a great video from Gergely Orosz, where we can see how big companies work with AI today, with lots of interesting insights. I can confirm that most of what he says is true. There’s an interesting wake-up call for iOS engineers in it, so I recommend watching it.
What’s New
Prepare and submit your apps for iPhone Duo
Apple released Xcode 27.1 RC with development support for iPhone Duo, together with a set of resources to help you add support to your app. iPhone Duo ships on October 23, so if your app doesn’t support it yet, now is the time to start 😉

Must Read
Simple, Consistent, and a Little Repetitive
You repeat some code, and as a result, every part of your app stays independent and easy to change. That is why I’m a big fan of modular architecture, sometimes, repetition is a fair price for modules that don’t depend on each other.
What Is Sendable in Swift? How Swift Concurrency Protects Your State
Data races have always been one of the biggest pains for every iOS engineer. Your crash rate looks almost good, there are only a few crashes, but you cannot reproduce them.
Swift 6 should fix a huge part of this by moving the checks to the compiler, with actors, Sendable, and the rest of the concurrency tools. If you want to understand how it works, let’s check this out.
Presenting SwiftUI sheets on iPhone Duo
Even if your app already supports iPhone and iPad, and it feels like you have every screen covered, iPhone Duo is a kind of 2-in-1 device. I recommend checking how your sheets behave on it 😉
If you see any issues or have questions about using sheets on iPhone Duo, this article is a great place to start.

The state of the tech industry in 2026
I suggest watching this session, all the things I heard in the talk are exactly what I’ve observed in large companies, and I can verify this based on my own experiences.
It’s interesting that OpenAI stopped hiring iOS and Android specialists this year and is now seeking more universal engineers. I agree with this approach and am trying to implement it at my company so that engineers from one platform can work on the other. I am one of the people driving this change, and I can confirm it works and makes a lot of sense.
Toolbox
It seems to me that this terminal was designed with Claude Code in mind. I’m using it at the moment and it looks excellent! It has the feel of a next-generation terminal and includes a number of extra features such as skills and a built-in browser, so I suggest you give it a try.
